Today children are too often sat down in front of a television or video games. Thy are not using their brains or learning. Instead they are becoming miniature zombies. What is best for our children you will not find behind a television screen or electronic game. In fact, it is a lot cheaper to come by and far more important. Educational toys are not as boring as they sound, in fact they can be a lot of fun. Not only do they help educate, but they will also help social skills when sharing these toys with other children.
There is a large range from jump ropes, which help hand eye coordination, to a game of memory, or a simple art project that allows them to be creative. Many simple games are educational and we tend to overlook their importance. Puzzles help problem solving and are also good for hand eye coordination. Be sure to choose age appropriate puzzles though because if there are too many pieces your kid will become frustrated.
Allowing kids to paint will not only foster creativity, but will also allow them to mix colors and learn how two colors can make a whole new color. Also, providing them with different materials to paint with will teach them cause and effect, such as paint brushes, qtips, sticks, really anything you can think of. Playing a simple game of basketball will help with social skills, hand eye coordination, and healthy living. This list could really go on and on. Think outside the box. Sort items by color, shapes, texture. Plant a garden, play house, or grocery store. Role playing will help a them learn responsibilities, and pretend play is an excellent way to achieve this.
Learning through play is the only way to go, so get yours off the couch, pry the video game away and replace it with a puzzle or paintbrush. These toys are something the whole family can get into and enjoy and your kids will feel better about themselves and more accomplished. They can be proud when they create a new art piece or complete a puzzle. It will be a new challenge that they can be proud of and so can you. It also does not hurt that it is educational, and you can keep that part a secret if you choose.
